MOCA has reported that multiple museums across the country have expressed interest in the show and it may travel after all. In partnership with The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and its online channel MOCAtv we asked graffiti and street artists and supporters around the. Weeks after the show’s debut, the Los Angeles Police Department reported a surge in vandalism in the Little Tokyo area of L.A., right near the museum’s entrance. Several sculptures on display come with a set of four wheels. However, the show has caused controversy. The broad display of work at Art in The Streets at MOCA in Los Angeles is not limited to transportation on subway cars. The museum estimates that the show will be the most successful in its history in terms of attendance, with 10,000-12,000 visitors per week. A new website revisits the popular survey of contemporary street art at the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Geffen Contemporary satellite space in 2011, curated by then-Director Jeffrey Deitch. This past Monday, the first free day, MOCA saw some 3,000 visitors to the exhibition. The first large-scale American museum exhibition to survey the colorful history of graffiti and street art movements internationally. MOCA recently announced on its blog “ The Curve” that graffiti artist Banksy will sponsor free admission to the museum every Monday for the duration of the show.
